The Enoch Pratt Free Library renovation is officially underway! The 290,000 square foot library was originally built in 1933 and has since become one of Baltimore’s most popular attractions. The Pratt will be open to all guests and visitors for the duration of the project and is expected to be completed in 2019. Critical Systems is proud to be a part of the renovation and modernization of the building and will be providing the turnkey building management system featuring our EcoStruxure product line.
Preserving The Past
The Enoch Pratt Free Library has over half a million visitors per year, with over a million visitors in 2015, and is being renovated to continue serving Marylanders for many years to come. The new state-of-the-art renovations to the Central Library will improve the building’s infrastructure and will increase learning, research, and civic engagement opportunities for guests. The new renovations will complement the library’s extensive print collection featuring the latest technologies. These modernizations will preserve the beloved historic landmark while welcoming a new and exciting future.
The renovations will add new and improved spaces to the library, including expanded conference facilities, the “Creation Stations” space to fuel creative learning, a new Teen/Young Adult area, restored children’s department, restoration of the Central Hall into a “Town Hall,” and a career center. The library will also include many new technology upgrades, including equipment available to take-out, more public computers, and the newest audio-visual equipment.
Critical System’s Role
Our role in the renovation project is to provide the turnkey building management system (BMS.) The building features a skylight cooling system and a finned tube radiation heating system, which will be easily controlled through our BMS solution. Our new Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) and life safety systems is an integral addition to the library, as they will ensure the occupant’s safety and will allow all visitors to feel comfortable. Critical Systems is excited to provide one of Baltimore’s most popular attractions with these renovations, and are very happy to be helping the great people of Baltimore!
