Since our beginning in 2004, SEBCSI has always worked to engage our people, customers, and market in the Baltimore, Northern Virginia, and Washington DC areas. The Suburban Hospital of Johns Hopkins is located in Bethesda, MD, across from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and has been serving residents of Montgomery County and Northwest DC for over 70 years. We were awarded the Suburban Hospital expansion in 2017, with an estimated completion for fall 2019. Continue reading to learn more about the expansion and SEBCSI’s role in the project.
Suburban Hospital Expansion Timeline
The expansion started in summer 2015, and has so far completed site preparation, the construction of interim parking, demolition of the old garage and Lambert building, and the building of a new garage on site. The construction of the new 300,000 sq ft Smart Hospital addition began in spring 2017, starting with the cellar floor for building services and sterile processing, as well as a first floor for surgical services. The second floor, or main entrance floor, will be used for public functions, conference centers, and physician offices, while the third and fourth floors will be used for shell space and private patient care units.
SEBCSI has the role of providing EcoStruxure for buildings as the backbone to the Integrated Smart Hospital Platform to provide a first in class patient care experience. The hospital selected our BACnet line of DDC controllers and management software.
A few renovations we performed for Suburban Expansion include the installation of BAS controlled systems such as a chilled water system, air handling units, a heating/ventilation unit, and exhausts. Renovations also include the installation and wiring of thermostats, refrigerant monitor controller, and lighting control systems. The Suburban Hospital is the county’s only designated Trauma Center, as well as a Primary Stroke Center. With the expansion and enhanced facilities, the hospital can continue to provide high-quality healthcare services to Montgomery County and surrounding areas. The expanded facilities will include new, state-of-the-art operating suites for trauma and other surgeries that will be designed to accommodate innovations in surgical care technology such as MRI and robotics. Other improvements include better access to the emergency/trauma center, private, acute care patient rooms, additional on-site patient and visitor parking, and convenient, on-site physician offices. The project will nearly double the size of the hospital by the time patients begin using it in 2019.
